Vista not ready for service just yet: [H] Enthusiast – 30 Days with Windows Vista
Based on my personal experiences with Vista over a 30 day period, I found it to be a dangerously unstable operating system, which has caused me to lose data. The 64-bit version is slightly better (which, frankly, surprised the hell out of us and makes us wonder if Microsoft didn’t make a mistake in choosing to only distribute Home Premium 32-bit in the retail channel), but it still has stability problems.
Any consideration of the fine details comes in second to that one inescapable conclusion. This is an unstable operating system.

We’ve got two legit copies of Ultimate here, and… I’m not installing them yet.
I want the candy. The candy calls to me. But I need to use my PC more I think. I’m hoping a service pack will be released in a month or two, things usually go better after the first service release.

Yeah, I got an Action Pack. Plus I played around with the Beta on both my PC and iMac. The candy is not that great. The main reason to upgrade being the need to use something that Vista has and XP does not. Like disk encryption or; actually I’m not sure what else. Performance wise XP is better for games.

LOL – “Like disk encryption or;” hits it on the head, there’s not a lot that’s visibly there.
The thing _I_ want it for is the user security context stuff. It’s basically a direct rip of Mac OS’s sudo implementation for priveledge escalation, as well as having the idea of applications running in an untrusted context through a broker (like IE). That should make it more secure, but there’s a road of pain leading to that promised land (one of the reasons why so much shit doesn’t work out of the box).

Useful for tablets and laptops. Not going to stop some determined to steal information, but probably useful against someone who ‘just steals’ laptops.
The user security stuff is actually a PITA. Pop ups for everything. It would be better if they had something like gksudo.
