PS3 losing the plot

There’s a lot of consumer (games) commentary about how Sony are shafting their PS/3 right now. They don’t have a good corporate message, it’s all out of sync, and VP’s of various divisions are contradicting each other.

I’ve no doubt the console is a good one, but it lacks software right now, and doesn’t have a compelling, “Why we’re better than Xbox” story at present. The Xbox Elite edition is still cheaper than a PS/3 with all the fruit and more, so really – what’s the story Sony?

I do agree that the Wii is a fad, in that it also lacks (3rd party) software. Nintendo can’t continue that way and be a serious competator… but I’m not sure they’re trying to compete with MS/Sony. They are making a raping with handhelds right now.

Time will tell, Sony do have an interesting first party software lineup – equally as compelling (albiet, different audience) to MS first party. It’s just that none of it exists on the console right now 🙂

My sister-in-law’s mother likes the Wii. I think Nintendo have a very good idea of their target market. Sony think they can sell their PS3 by doing a Apple: selling high, but expecting people to buy because of brand loyalty. Only works if you produce the fruit.
